InfoTOM PELHAM of Calais, Washington County, Independent, was born in Arlington, Vermont, on December 26, 1949. Tom lives in Calais with his wife Julie Tessler and daughters Rachel, 15, and Rebecca, 13. He is a graduate of Arlington High School, Arlington, Vermont and holds a Bachelor's degree from Tufts University and a Master's Degree from Harvard University where he earned an EPA Fellowship. Tom held the posts of Deputy Commissioner then Commissioner of Vermont's Department of Finance and Management from 1991 to 1994 and 1994 to 2000, respectively. From 1989 to 1991, he was Deputy, then Commissioner, of the Vermont's Department of Housing and Community Development. Tom served on the Calais Elementary School Board from 1994 to 2000 and also coached soccer and basketball teams at grade levels 3 through 7. He is a member of the Maple Corner Community Center Endowment Committee. Prior to returning to Vermont in 1989, Tom served in a number of capacities in the Boston area. These include Director of Development, Massachusetts Water Resources Authority; Director of Community Development, City of Somerville; and Director of the Department of Energy and Environmental Quality for the Metropolitan Area Planning Council, among others. He served on many Boards including the Somerville-Cambridge Elderly Homecare Corporation, the M.B.T.A Advisory Board, and the Boston Transportation Planning Review's Working Committee.
