Issues

1. What do you see as the major issues and problems facing Wyoming and how can the legislature deal with them in a pro-active manner?

Education - smaller classes, qualified teachers, better school buildings is being addressed
Health Care - need a prescription drug program and need to increase access to health care for children. i.e. SCHIP to 185% of poverty level
Economic development - continue the Business Council and the coordination of the Council with Leads in Laramie County
Funding - better auditing of mineral industry. Tax on distance sales. Continued lodging tax.
Wyoming is better off presently than most other states. However, the legislature most continue to plan for the future to make life better for coming generations. e.g. more jobs and higher paying jobs

2. Do you support or oppose:

a.) Sales tax increase: Oppose
b.) Property tax increase: Possibly a two to four mil increase if necessary statewide
c.) Establishment of a state income tax: Oppose
d.) Higher taxes on extractive minerals: Depends upon how implemented. In general oppose.
3. Are you comfortable with the way coal bed methane is being developed in Wyoming?

I'm concerned regarding the water runoff from methane gas wells. We need more information regarding the potential environmental impact.

4. Does the legislature need to take additional action to improve Wyoming's educational system?

The legislature has already made giant strides in funding education in Wyoming K-12, community colleges and UW.

5. Who are your heroes and why?

Former Senator Alan Simpson. Willing to take on the tough issues and established organizations in an in depth candid manner. He did this in and open and thought provoking manner but with fairness and good humor.

Secretary Colin Powell who came from humble beginnings and who has accomplished so much. I admire his integrity. he understands war and military strategy and views the world from a moderate standpoint. He stands firmly for his principles.

6. Brief comments you would like included:

Six years legislative experience
Expertise in health and safety issues
13 years experience in private pediatric practice
22 years experience in public service
Serving as a Republican member of the majority party. This enhances my ability to aggressively serve you, my constituents.
