InfoRenee Taschner is a 46 year old married mother of two children who lives in the Corner Ketch area of Newark. Renee was the third of four children born to Frances and Richard Cosgrove. Her mother was the eldest of 11 and her father was one of 7. Renee grew up in an era where weekly family get togethers were the norm, spending her Sundays at the home of one of her grandparents enjoying the company of a large extended family. Renee was raised in a tight knit community of Pennsylvania and grew up living across the street from a family whose father was a Sergeant for the local police department. It was due to her upbringing and the close relationship with that family that Renee developed a desire for a career in law enforcement. Renee’s family moved to the Pike Creek area in 1980 and with the exception of a few years living in the Elsmere area, she has remained in the Pike Creek/Newark area.

Renee began her life dedicated to serving the citizens of New Castle County when she took a job with the Delaware State Police as a Communications Specialist. After three years and some odd months Renee joined the New Castle County police academy in October 1987 and graduated February 1988. She was one of only two females in that academy class. Throughout her career, Renee spent many hours tirelessly investigating those and other types of crimes. Some people remember Renee for the role she played in Delaware’s only confirmed serial killer investigation. During her career Renee was active in her police union and spearheaded three very successful fund raisers to benefit officers and their families. Renee was honored by the department multiple times and received numerous letters of appreciation from the public at large. Renee is a life member of the Fraternal Order of Police and has held positions of treasurer, recording secretary and past recording secretary. She is currently a member of the Retirees Association.

Since retiring Renee has spent her time devoted to her children. She was the volunteer coordinator for the Piedmont Cal Ripken Baseball League concession stand during the 2008 season; she has been a library volunteer at school for both children for many years and has served as homeroom parent numerous times for both children. The last two years she has coordinated the pizza Wednesday delivery twice monthly for 8 classrooms. She has participated in MS Bike to the Bay and Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run.

In May of 2007, Renee began employment as an administrative assistant to the owner and CEO, of a local automobile dealership.

Renee lives in Newark with her husband Jeff and their two children and Skittles the dog.
