InfoAn Idaho resident for 35 years, Sheila received a degree in nursing at Loretta Heights College in Colorado and later completed the nurse practitioner’s program at the University of Colorado.

She had her share of challenges in her life. At 27, Sheila experienced severe chest pains and was diagnosed with coronary artery disease. She had an open-heart bypass operation, the chest pains returned and she had the surgery redone.

“The prognosis was not good,” she said. “I thought I was going to die at 27. But I was determined to see my family grow up, and I just kept going on.”

She has done just that over the last 30 years – with Dean, seeing their five children not only grow up, but produce nine grandchildren. Sheila has run some marathons, exercises daily, watches what she eats, maintains a trim figure and her energy level is … well … good luck in keeping up with her.

Sheila and Dr. Dean Sorensen were married on Feb. 14, 1977. Ten years later, she was appointed to fill his seat in the Idaho Legislature when he went to Salt Lake City on a professional sabbatical.

Politics suited her well, and Idaho is better off for her productive 17 years in the Legislature. Now she’s ready to use her skills to represent Idaho’s 1st Congressional District.
