InfoSkip and his wife Pia have a son in grade school - Nicholas. They live in Kooskia where Brandt is a part owner of a hardware store in nearby Stites. He is a 41-year-old, fourth generation Idahoan who was born in Grangeville and raised in Kooskia. His family background is in farming, logging and the sawmill business. In addition to his current senate position as Idaho Senate Transportation Committee Chairman , Brandt has previously served as a mayor and councilman of the town of Kooskia, board member of the Clearwater Resource Coalition, board member of the Idaho County Sheriff’s Posse, member of the State Search and Rescue Association and a leader of the Idaho County Dive Rescue Team.

Brandt is certified as a private pilot, hang glider pilot, sky diver and scuba diver. He is a member of the National rifle Association, American Bikers Aiming Towards Education, Public Lands Access Year Around, the Lions Club, Shriners, Masons, and the Kooskia and Stites Volunteer Fire Departments.

As a third-term legislator in the Idaho Senate he is chairman of the Transportation Committee and a member of the Health and Welfare and the Natural Resource and Environment committees. In past sessions he was chairman of the Health and Welfare Committee and a member of the Commerce and Human Resource Committee.
