Eugene J. Green, Jr. is the husband of Jennifer F. Green, whom he met while both he and she were students at Harvard University. Green is the father of three children – Eugene, 21, a student at Tulane University Majoring in Business Administration, Melanie, 14, the Louisiana Level 8 State Champion gymnast, and a student at Benjamin Franklin High School, and Jonathan, 12, a student at Edward Hynes Charter School.

Eugene is the former Chief of Staff for the Office of the Louisiana Second Congressional District. He worked with Congressman William J. Jefferson. During his time in the office, 2006 – 2008, Green worked with the Congressman to deliver resources and funding to the State of Louisiana to facilitate the rebuilding of the New Orleans region following the devastation left in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Green also led the office in its provision of constituent services to hundreds of our region’s citizens, helping them to rebuild and to return to their homes and businesses, and helping them to resolve difficulties involving interaction with federal government agencies.

Eugene J. Green, Jr. is the former President of the New Orleans Regional Business Park (formerly the New Orleans Business & Industrial District). During the six years that he led the Park’s operations and outreach, he was successful in attracting over a score of new businesses. He also led the securing of state and city funding support that made possible the construction of a 115 HVA electrical substation. This investment facilitated Folger Coffee Company in the creation of over one hundred new jobs and in their investment of over 100 million dollars in plant and equipment at their world’s largest coffee roasting facility. Green helped to create an active Merchants Association which facilitated the attraction of new businesses and the continued expansion of existing businesses.

Under Green’s leadership of the Division, revitalization commenced along Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard, in the City’s Lower Garden District, and along Freret Street.

Green is the founder, President, and Broker of Nationwide Real Estate Corporation, a property rehabilitation and management corporation which manages hundreds of units throughout the New Orleans area. This firm opened its doors for business in 1986.

Green’s work experience includes the First National Bank of Boston as a loan officer trainee, with the Xerox Corporation as a sales agent and manager, with The General Homes Corporation, and with River City Realty.

Green is a lifetime resident of New Orleans. He grew up in Pontchartrain Park subdivision, and near Dillard University, and in Academy Park in New Orleans East. He attended Stuart R. Bradley Elementary, Francis Gregory Junior High School, and St. Augustine High School from which he graduated in 1976. Green was the Salutatorian of his high school graduating class, and served as the student body President. He also was a four year member of the "Marching 100" and concert bands.

Green went on to Harvard University where he earned in 1980 a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Economics. While at Harvard, Green’s extracurricular activities included work as the Manager of the Catering Division of Harvard Student Agencies, which was then and is still the largest fully student managed corporation in the United States. Green also served as the President of the Black Students Association during his senior year. Green’s leadership led to Harvard College’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences historic decision to create a half day holiday in celebration of the birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In 1989, Green earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Tulane University.

Green is committed to business and community development in the City of New Orleans. He presently serves as the Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Good Work Network, an entrepreneurial support agency that has helped many low and moderate income citizens to start and grow business enterprises. Green authors a monthly business support newsletter, The Green Business Report ( www.thegreenbusinessreport.com ). Green serves as the Vice Chairman of the Fleur de Lis District of the Southeast Louisiana Council of the Boy Scouts of America. From 2007 – 2009 he served as the District Chairman. Green’s son is a Eagle Scout.

He has served as a member of the Orleans Parish School Board and as a member of the Orleans Levee District. He formerly served on the Board of Directors of: The Women’s Business Resource Center, The Children’s Bureau of Greater New Orleans, the Volunteers of America of Greater New Orleans, the Greater New Orleans Black Tourism Network, the Xavier Triangle Neighborhood Development Corporation, the St. Marks Community Center, the Newcorp Business Assistance Center, and Eastlake Hospital. Green previously served: as a member of the New Orleans East Economic Development Foundation Advisory Committee, as Chairman of the Capital Campaign for Bethany United Methodist Church, as a member of Mayor Morial’s Economic Development Planning Advisory Committee, which was charged with the creation of a comprehensive five year City economic development plan, and as a member of the Volunteers of America Business Advisory Committee.

Green also served as a past member of the Construction Review Committee of the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board and as Vice Chairperson of the Louisiana Association of Business Enterprise Specialists, an organization which joined small business representatives from many public and private sector agencies. He was a member of the Superbowl XXXI business development committee which put in place a program and activities which led to a record level of participation in Super Bowl XXXI business procurement opportunities by business enterprises owned by members of racial and ethnic minorities. Green is a former member of the Louisiana Association of Planning and Development Districts.

Green has in the past served as the President of both the Edward A. Kennedy Jr. Memorial Choir and the Men's Fellowship at Bethany United Methodist Church.
