InfoAs a pastor, community leader and family man, David Melville has been bringing people together to get things done for the common good for his entire adult life. David and his wife Melanie grew up practically next door to each other in South Bossier Parish and have lived, worked, raised a family and served the Lord locally ever since then.

David, a member of the Democratic Party, is a 1968 graduate of Bossier High School. He received both his B.A. in Political Science and his Masters Degree in Political Science from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He earned his Master of Divinity Degree at Drew Theological School in Madison, New Jersey.

He has served multiple congregations in his years as a Pastor. He was Director of Service Ministries at First Methodist Church in Shreveport for thirteen years. He served as Pastor at Keithville United Methodist Church, as Associate Pastor at Noel Memorial United Methodist Church in Shreveport, and currently as Pastor of Fellowship United Methodist Church in Bossier City.

Through the years he has worked tirelessly to create stronger families and a better community. He served as President for both the Bossier City Kiwanis Club and Caddo-Bossier Community Council. He worked to meet the needs of our elderly by serving on the Board of the Caddo Council on Aging. When there was an opportunity to provide affordable housing to build stronger neighborhoods, David was a charter member of Habitat for Humanity. In an effort to protect our citizens from crime, David became a charter member of Bossier City Crime Stoppers. He worked to provide affordable health care on the Schumpert Medical Center Community Advisory Committee. He worked for religious tolerance and understanding as a Board Member of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. And he helped low-income deserving students reach their dream of a college education by initiating a scholarship fund to provide the financial help they needed.

For his many efforts, he has been named "Citizen of the Year" and given the highest civic awards presented by both the Shreveport Bar Association and the Shreveport Exchange Club.

While not a politician, David Melville understands government and politics. Not only did he earn both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Political Science, he served in Washington as a congressional aide to the late Joe D. Waggonner, Jr. He served on the campaign staff of the late Senator Allen Ellender. He worked as a campaign consultant for Louisiana Secretary of State Jim Brown. He ran and was elected to the Bossier Parish Police Jury. And he served as campaign manager for his brother-in-law Buddy Roemer.

David has been married to his wife Melanie for 37 years. They are the proud parents of four, two of whom are military veterans, and the even prouder grandparents of eight (with more on the way).
