InfoJimmy Wood was born and raised a “Carolina boy” – North Carolina that is, in a Christian home with Christian parents and two older brothers. A son of two educators, Jimmy was raised in a working home where education, hard work, integrity, and southern-manners were of utmost importance. It was in this home that Jimmy was instilled with the family values and work ethic that brings him before you today. Throughout his childhood, he and his family frequently vacationed in Myrtle Beach; you could say South Carolina was as pivotal in his upbringing as the North-state. At 17, Jimmy received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy, personally appointed by the late Senator Jesse Helms of North Carolina. It was also during this year, that Jimmy met and fell in love with his soul mate; the love of his life; high school sweetheart -- and now wife, Tricia Chappell (Wood). Through a love-filled distant relationship that was obviously meant to be, Jimmy and Tricia were married in 1995, just one year after Jimmy graduated from the Air Force Academy and was commissioned in the United States Air Force as a Second Lieutenant.

Early in 1996, Jimmy was selected into a world of specialized training within the military that would shape his life, and his world, from that point forward. In May, 1996, Jimmy began his training in the United States Naval School for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD). It was during this rigorous and dangerous training regiment where Jimmy discovered his true calling in life; a calling of service to his nation that has only grown stronger with time.

Upon graduation from EOD School, Jimmy took command of his first EOD Team in eastern New Mexico where he experienced demining operations in the Middle East, Gulf War reclamation projects of clearing unexploded ordnance on US held military bases in Kuwait, and numerous missions with the United States Secret Service providing explosives response expertise for the protection of the President and Vice President of the United States. Numerous assignments and missions would come and go before Jimmy found himself in the civilian sector, supporting specialized research and technology development programs for our nation’s premiere special operations teams and EOD detachments inside the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) compound at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Then, 9/11 occurred; one day in the history of our nation that changed everything.

For Jimmy, as with all other EOD personnel, 9/11 took EOD from a support function to the front lines of the battlefield. At that time, and although predominantly a civilian by this point, Jimmy was serving as a Traditional Reservist in the United States Air Force and was charged with developing and building an EOD Team at the Air Reserves Station at Homestead, Florida. With that project successfully complete and with the team fully self-sustaining, Jimmy transferred his Reserves Duty to Charleston Air Force Base where he assumed command of the 315th Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team and has served in this capacity ever since. In 2006, Jimmy was recalled to Active Duty and forward deployed to conduct Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) operations in Baghdad, Iraq. Upon his return home from combat, Jimmy assumed command of the 315th Civil Engineer Flight where he commands all functions associated with the Reserve Wing’s Fire Department / Crash Rescue; Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Emergency Management functions.

Throughout this journey, Jimmy has always had Tricia right by his side. God has blessed this couple with love, joy, and hardships that have made them closer and stronger. Jimmy and Tricia currently live in Summerville, South Carolina and are blessed with four wonderful children: Madelyn, son Hunter, Leah, and Delaney.

Jimmy serves as the Commander of the 315th Civil Engineer Flight, is the Executive Vice President of a government contracting firm located in Goose Creek, and is an active member of North Trident Baptist Church, of Summerville. Jimmy holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the United States Air Force Academy and a Masters of Arts Degree in Homeland Security from the American Military University, where he graduated with honors.
