InfoBob Marx's grandparents, Basilo and Maximina Belin left Ponce Puerto Rico in 1921, coming to Hawaii to work on a Sugarcane Plantation on Maui, and later moved to Oahu seeking better opportunities for the family. Bob's mother, Louise, attended Farrington High School and performed Hula at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, where she met and fell in love with Bob's father Joseph Marx, a Naval Aviator, whom she married in 1943. The family moved to Oregon after the end of the war and had 3 children, Bob was the second child.

Bob like his parents, was educated in Public schools, he received a Bachelors of Science degree from Oregon State University in 1971 and shortly thereafter, at the age of 23, was elected to the Oregon State Legislature, where he served 3 terms, representing a rural district. While serving in the State Legislature Bob supported his young family, working as a property appraiser, and in the evenings attending Lewis and Clark Law School, which he completed in 1979, receiving a Jurist Doctorate degree.

While in the State Legislature Bob served as; a chairman, co-chairman, or committee member of House Committees on; Aging, Judiciary, Revenue and Finance, and on the Budget process Committee. Bob also served on the "House sub-committee on Solid Waste."

Bob is particularly proud of having been awarded the "Senior Advocate of the Year" by the National Retired Teachers Association (NRTA) and the American Association of Retired People (AARP) legislative committee, for his work helping pass; "Project Independence", in home assistance for Senior Citizens, helping them to stay in their homes, and improved Dental Care for Seniors. Bob's commitment to fair and reasonable treatment of our seniors "Kupunaā€¯ is lifelong and unwavering. To be closer to his aging mother who had returned to Hawaii, Bob moved to Oahu in 1979.

Bob is the grandfather of 3 and father of 4 children, the youngest of which Kai, Bob raised as a single parent after the death of his wife Hiromi Tsuchiya-Marx in 1998. Bob is well aware of the challenges and rewards of raising a family and the difficulties faced by single parent households.

Bob Marx is an Attorney who has no partners in his law firm, he is a "Small Business Owner" who knows what it takes to run a successful business in good and bad economic times, as a local job creator with many employees in his law office and a recently opened book store he understands budgeting and the importance of "Small Business" as the backbone of our economy.

Bob has received recognition for and gained a reputation as a strong advocate for; working people, for education and for helping preserve our environment. In 1982-3 Bob successfully represented "Save the Nanawale Forest" in saving one of the few remaining natural hardwood forests in Hawaii. The "Hilo Na Loio Pu'uwai" award was presented to Bob in 2007 for volunteer legal service and commitment to equal access to justice, and has been named as the "Readers Choice/Best of East Hawaii", Best Attorney and Law Office several times.

Bob quietly makes a difference in many different ways beyond representing the powerless and "little guy's", he brings student interns into his a law offices allowing them to earn credits for their college courses while gaining real world work experience. The College Scholarship program Bob created in 1984 has awarded more than 50 scholarships to help students attend college, and continues to award scholarships annually. He donates Christmas Baskets to the "Elk's Christmas Club" as he remembers how important it was to receive them as a child, sometimes being the best present he would receive.

Bob has served many of "the little guy's" in Hawaii as an Attorney and successful Small Businessman, and he wishes to broaden his service to include all of his neighbors on these islands we call home.

Bob is committed, dedicated and experienced, and asks for your consideration to allow him to serve you in Congress in the House of Representatives.
