Info | BANKS, John, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born near Lewisburg, Juniata County, Pa., October 17, 1793; received a liberal education; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Juniata County in 1819; moved to Mercer County and continued the practice of law; elected as an Anti-Masonic candidate to the Twenty-second, Twenty-third, and Twenty-fourth Congresses and served from March 4, 1831, until his resignation in 1836; judge of the Berks judicial district from 1836 until he resigned to accept a State position; State treasurer of Pennsylvania in 1847; resumed the practice of law in Reading, Pa., where he died April 3, 1864; interment in Charles Evans Cemetery.
