A resident of Carlisle for 34 years, Fred is married to Marilyn Keener, who is a Lancaster County native and former counselor in the Big Spring School District. He has two children (Elizabeth and Ben), both graduates of Carlisle High School, and one grandchild (William). Fred and Marilyn attend the Carlisle Friends Meeting (Quakers) and are active in volunteer community service. He has a Ph.D. in American history.
