InfoDan Furtado is a native of Campbell, California, where he currently serves as a member of the City Council. He completed his undergraduate work at San Jose State University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Applied Arts and Sciences. He attended the University of California, San Francisco, and received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 1969. He also holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of San Francisco. He is a Life Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

He served as a volunteer for the American Heart Association for 30 years and has served on the Board of Directors and President of the Santa Clara County Chapter of the American Heart Association. In addition to serving as a spokesperson for the heart association, he has taught both basic and advanced cardiac life support.

Dan was employed by Stanford University School of Medicine as Senior Lecturer in Medicine and Associate Director of the Primary Care Associate Program in the Division of Family & Community Medicine for over 23 years. Subsequently, he taught part-time at the University. He served two years on active duty with the U.S. Army, and retired as Colonel after more than 40 years of service in the Army Reserve. He was appointed Army Reserve Ambassador for California in June 2006.

He was elected to the Campbell City Council in March 1996, after having served as a member of the Civic Improvement Commission for over 10 years. He served as Mayor in 1999, 2003, & 2007. He was selected Citizen of the Year for the City of Campbell for the year 2000.
