InfoHollington's service in the Ohio House began with the conception of district after the House consisted of county-by-county delegations. He was initially elected in 1966, and reelected in 1970. He opted to return to Cleveland in 1972, rather than run for a third term. He was succeeded by Harry Lehman, who went on to serve five terms.

More than forty years later, in 2010, Representative Matt Dolan resigned from his seat to prepare for a run for the new position of Cuyahoga County Executive. Soon after, Representative Tim Grendell stated that he would run for the open seat, but would remain in the Senate for the remaining of the 128th General Assembly.[1] As a result, House Republicans chose Hollington to serve as a placeholder until the winner of the seat was chosen in November. He was sworn into office on February 6, 2010, more than forty years since he had previously left the House.[2] In a surprise move early in his return term, Hollington filed for the primary election, shocking the caucus who had previously backed Grendell. However, soon after he relinquished his candidacy and backed that of Grendell's.

With an unprecedented move in recent history, Grendell, after winning the seat, opted to remain in his Senate seat instead.[3] Therefore, with the seat now vacant after Hollington's appointed term had expired, another appointment process occurred. With Hollington seeking an the seat this time, his colleagues again chose him to serve the rest of the term.[4]
