Elected in 2002, State Representative Andy Meisner has a long history as an advocate for Oakland County's families. Representative Andy Meisner was raised with the boundaries of district 27. He is a graduate of Berkley Public Schools and the University of Michigan. Meisner is continuing his studies as a law student at the University of Detroit Mercy. Meisner is proficient in the Spanish and Portuguese languages. Meisner worked for Congressman Sandy Levin as a Legislative Assistant responsible for policy relating to crime, community-oriented policing, community coalitions, drug courts, unemployment compensation, and foreign affairs including the Middle East. Meisner left Levin's office to serve as Vice President of Marketing and Communications for a national, non-profit organization called the Drug Free Kids Campaign, formerly Community Anti Drug Coalitions of America. This organization promotes community-based solutions to substance abuse and crime and unites communities around the goal of reducing substance abuse and violence. Immediately before his election to the Michigan House of Representatives, Meisner was the Director of Corporate Communication for the Farbman Group in Detroit. Meisner is also Co-Founder and Co-Director of the Michigan Democratic Action Network (MDAN), a grassroots organization with members in Michigan and Washington, D.C. that works to engage young adults in the political process. Meisner represents Michigan's 27 th District which includes the communities of Huntington Woods, Oak Park, Berkley, Pleasant Ridge, Ferndale and Hazel Park. He is committed to progressive polices that strengthen communities. He serves as Minority Vice chair of the Criminal Justice Committee. He also serves on the Education and Regulatory Reform committees. He serves in a leadership role as Assistant Minority Whip.
