InfoLouise E. Johnson – known to her family, friends, and professionally as “Ellie” - is asking for your support in her bid to become Michigan’s 3rd Congressional Representative. She is not from a political background, but from middle class America. She is from a family whose parents told her and her siblings, and indeed the neighborhoods kids, day in and day out, “baby, you can do anything and you can be anything you want in this Great County. And they were so right!

Born June 5th 1961, Ellie was the second of five children. Her father Al served six years in the United States Navy and then retired after 30 years as a diesel mechanic from Bradford White Corporation located in Middleville, Michigan. Margie, her mother, was a stay at home mom, caring for Ellie’s other 4 siblings. And if the blessings from her family weren’t enough, she and her siblings spent their days in Bowens Mills, swinging from the famous rope swing, from sunup till sundown. It was common place in the Lewis household to have at least one extra neighborhood child for dinner!

Ellie attended Thornapple Kellogg High School and graduated from Central Michigan University. She married and was blessed with the lights of her life, John and Tyson. She recently married the other “light of her life,” Alfred Johnson, a local Grand Rapid Businessman.

As a single mother caring for her sons, Ellie held many jobs – from ski instructor, life guard, caregiver for the severely disabled, manager of the NCO Club at the National Guard Base - Camp Grayling, to starting her own A#1 Chimney Sweep business, often holding many jobs simultaneously. And she continued her schooling, finished her bachelor degree, then applied and was accepted at Cooley Law School. In her “spare” time she learned to renovate houses, kept up with her active sons’ school activities, and somehow found time to train for and finish the Boston Marathon, the Detroit Marathon, and many others - a practice she continues to the present having run in marathons and ultra marathons in the United States and other countries. After graduating from Cooley and passing the Michigan Bar examination, she hung her “shingle” and started her new career as an attorney.

Ellie has a successful law practice in Grand Rapids, and while her practice focuses on criminal defense she also practices family law and business law. She has strong conservative views and a deep appreciation and gratitude for this country – the freedoms and opportunities, the hope and chance it symbolizes for many in the world. She has decided to take her views, energy, and “can do” attitude to a bigger platform where she can have a positive influence on the direction Michigan and the United States need to travel in this increasingly complex world.
