Info | Glickman was diagnosed with bile duct cancer in June 2009, she said, and was given three to six months to live. Radiation and chemotherapy improved his outlook, but in the past three months the cancer spread to his digestive system and it became difficult for him to eat.
"Thankfully he is not in pain anymore," Judy Glickman said. She said his death, at 7 p.m. Thursday at Stanford University Medical Center, was "very peaceful and very serene."
Glickman, who was elected to the Los Gatos Town Council in 2000 but did not seek re-election in 2008, was an often oppositional and controversial figure in town politics. In 2008 he supported a million-dollar skate park that other council members opposed, and in 2006 he supported American Apparel's failed bid to open a storefront on Santa Cruz Avenue where an Apple store ultimately opened. He even opposed construction of a new library, saying the matter should be put to voters.
