Info | I grew up near St. Louis, Missouri before leaving for Northern Spain to complete a two-year service mission at age 19. After that, I attended Brigham Young University and studied business at the top-ranked Marriott School of Management.
I returned home to Springfield, Missouri in 2000/2001 where I worked as a law clerk for the Springfield office of Lathrop & Gage, L.C. I continued my clerkship during and after law school at the University of Missouri. I also taught Spanish as a graduate instructor during my studies.
My leap into the public sector began in early 2007, when I went to work for former Governor Matt Blunt. I was assigned as the governor's labor & insurance policy advisor. My work uncovered a flawed minimum wage law interpretation and resulted in a promotion. I became Governor Blunt's deputy general counsel in the Spring of 2007. I blew the whistle on unlawful practices in the governor's office in the Fall of 2007.
I was defamed and withstood an unprecedented smear campaign as a result. Three lawsuits were filed over the matter and all eventually settled, but not before an independent investigation concluded that the law was violated.
My name was cleared in the Fall of 2009 when the governor's Office of Administration issued a letter of exoneration. That was followed by a similar letter from the Attorney General Chris Koster. Lastly, the Missouri Bar issued their findings in which each allegation was laid to rest and found untrue.
In the midst of this struggle which spanned nearly two and a half years, I was named one of “Missouri's Lawyers of the Year,” by Missouri Lawyer’s Weekly—among the youngest of attorneys ever to receive this honor. I also continued working for two healthcare companies and completed a 12-month intensive international MBA degree at the University of Southern California.
