Info | WARD, William Thomas, a Representative from Kentucky; born in Amelia County, Va., August 9, 1808; attended the common schools and St. Mary’s College, near Lebanon, Ky.; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Greensburg, Ky.; served in the Mexican War as major of the Fourth Kentucky Volunteers in 1847 and 1848; member of the State house of representatives in 1850; elected as a Whig to the Thirty-second Congress (March 4, 1851-March 3, 1853); was not a candidate for renomination in 1852; commissioned brigadier general in the Union Army and served throughout the Civil War; resumed the practice of law in Louisville, Ky., where he died October 12, 1878; interment in Cave Hill Cemetery.
