Info | HANCOCK, Clarence Eugene, a Representative from New York; born in Syracuse, N.Y., February 13, 1885; attended the public schools; was graduated from Wesleyan University, Middletown, Conn., in 1906 and from New York (N.Y.) Law School in 1908; was admitted to the bar in 1908 and commenced practice in Syracuse, N.Y.; served as a sergeant in the First New York Cavalry on the Mexican border in 1916; during the First World War served overseas as a captain with the One Hundred and Fourth Machine Gun Battalion, Twenty-seventh Division, 1917-1919; corporation counsel of Syracuse, N.Y., 1926-1927; trustee of Wesleyan University, Middletown, Conn.; elected as a Republican to the Seventieth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Walter W. Magee; reelected to the Seventy-first and to the eight succeeding Congresses and served from November 8, 1927, to January 3, 1947; was not a candidate for renomination in 1946; resumed the practice of law in Syracuse, N.Y.; died January 3, 1948, in a hospital in Washington, D.C.; interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse, N.Y.
