Info | Viessman represented Jefferson City's First Ward from 1982 to 1985, but resigned when a family member's illness made it necessary for him to live close to specialized medical services in Columbia. After moving back to Jefferson City in 1999, he was elected in 2002 to serve the Third Ward and served two terms before declining to seek re-election in 2005.
"I have a varied enough background that I can communicate effectively with people from all walk of life. I have served in the military, both active and reserves. I have worked as a police officer. My service on the City Council has given me experience in dealing with cores issues that are important to all citizens."
Viessman worked for Missouri Pacific (later Union Pacific) for 25 years, starting as a section hand and eventually becoming a locomotive engineer. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers (BLE) for 23 years, serving as Chairman of Local 609 for 1990 to 1995.
