Info | Jacob W. Wilkin was born on June 7, 1837 in Newark, Licking County, Ohio. He received his degree at McKendree College, and studied law under Judge John Scholfield. In 1862 he enlisted in the 130th Illinois Volunteers Infantry, and left three years later with the rank of Major. In 1872 he served as a Presidential Elector, and from 1879 - 1888 he served as a Circuit Court Judge for the 4th District. On June 4, 1888 he was elected to the Illinois Supreme Court, where he served until his death on April 4, 1907. During his tenure on the high court, he served as chief justice twice, in 1894 and 1901. Judge Wilkin was a member of the Masons, Scottish Rite, and Knights of Pythias.
