InfoBROWN, Milton, a Representative from Tennessee; born in Lebanon, Ohio, February 28, 1804; moved to Nashville, Tenn.; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Paris, Tenn.; later moved to Jackson, Tenn.; became judge of the chancery court of west Tennessee in 1835 and held this position until elected as a Whig to the Twenty-seventh Congress; reelected to the two succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1841-March 3, 1847); resumed the practice of law; one of the founders of Southwestern University (later Union University) and of Lambuth College, both in Jackson, Madison County, Tenn.; president of the Mississippi Central & Tennessee Railroad Co., 1854-1856; president of the Mobile & Ohio Railroad Co., 1856-1871; died in Jackson, Tenn., on May 15, 1883; interment in Riverside Cemetery.
