Info | THAYER, John Alden, (son of Eli Thayer), a Representative from Massachusetts; born in Worcester, Mass., December 22, 1857; attended the grade and high schools of Worcester; was graduated from Harvard University in 1879; taught school; studied law at Columbia College of Law at New York City; was admitted to the bar in 1889 and commenced practice in Worcester; clerk of the central district court of Worcester 1892-1897; elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-second Congress (March 4, 1911-March 3, 1913); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1912 to the Sixty-third Congress; delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1912; appointed postmaster of Worcester, Mass., in February 1915, and served until his death in Worcester, Mass., July 31, 1917; interment in Hope Cemetery.
