InfoLINTON, William Seelye, a Representative from Michigan; born in St. Clair, St. Clair County, Mich., February 4, 1856; moved with his parents to Saginaw, Mich., in 1859; attended the public schools; engaged as clerk in a store at Farwell, Mich.; became engaged in various activities connected with the lumber industry at Wells (now Alger); member of the board of supervisors of Bay County two terms; returned to Saginaw in 1878 and engaged in the lumber business with his father and also was connected with other business enterprises; member of the East Saginaw common council in 1884 and 1885; member of the State house of representatives in 1887 and 1888; unsuccessful candidate for Lieutenant Governor on the Republican ticket in 1890; president of the Saginaw Water Board; elected mayor of Saginaw in 1892; elected as a Republican to the Fifty-third and Fifty-fourth Congresses (March 4, 1893-March 3, 1897); chairman, Committee on Ventilation and Acoustics (Fifty-fourth Congress); appointed postmaster of Saginaw, Mich., by President McKinley on March 22, 1898, and recommissioned three times and served until 1914; president of the Saginaw Board of Trade 1905-1911 and 1913-1917; unsuccessful candidate for the Republican nomination for Governor of Michigan in 1913; appointed in 1919 a member of the Michigan State Board of Tax Commissioners and was named secretary a few weeks before his death in Lansing, Mich., on November 22, 1927; interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Saginaw, Mich.
