Info | CHAMBERLAIN, Ebenezer Mattoon, a Representative from Indiana; born in Orrington, Maine, August 20, 1805; attended the public schools; employed in his father’s shipyard; studied law; moved to Connersville, Ind., where he completed his studies; was admitted to the bar in 1832 and commenced practice in Elkhart County in 1833; member of the State house of representatives 1835-1837; served in the State senate 1839-1842; elected prosecuting attorney of the ninth judicial circuit in 1842; elected president judge of the ninth judicial district in 1843, reelected in 1851 and served until he resigned, having been elected to Congress; delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1844; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-third Congress (March 4, 1853-March 3, 1855); engaged in the practice of law in Goshen, Elkhart County, Ind., until his death there March 14, 1861; interment in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
