InfoMy wife Elsie and I live with our six kids in Edgeworth borough. With one kid in diapers, one in college and four in between, we appreciate how hard people are working to make better lives for their families and to manage all the things that press on their time. I am a graduate of the Notre Dame Law School, and over the years of my professional career, I have developed the reputation of being a problem solver. In private practice, I have been able to kick-start stalled negotiations, known when to compromise and known when to hold fast. I have been able to get the job done so that businesses can do the things they need to do in order to grow, prosper and add jobs.

Between 2006 and 2007, I served as the first Director of the Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives at the Department of Homeland Security. At DHS, following up on lessons learned from the federal government's response to Hurricane Katrina, I worked to close the gaps with respect to integrating the nonprofit sector into the nation's emergency management framework.

During my time at DHS, I encountered and tackled an even bigger problem: cancer of the appendix. With the benefit of having access to the best health care system in the world, I am cancer-free. Eighteen months after major abdominal surgery, I ran my first marathon in October 2008 and in doing so I was able to raise more than $8,000 for Fisher House, which builds and operates houses near the nation's Veterans Hospitals where family members of servicemen and women may stay while visiting their loved ones. My family attends St. James Catholic Church in Sewickley, and I am privileged to serve on the Board of Advisors for the Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania.
