InfoA longtime Glendale resident, and fourth generation Arizonan, Manuel 'Manny' Cruz is committed to his family, friends, neighbors, and citizens of Glendale. He serves as a volunteer Commissioner on the Glendale Neighborhood Commission, Chairs the Committee on Neighborhood Grants, and serves as a volunteer board member for several area non-profits.

Trained in the areas of Occupational Safety and Health, Mine Safety and Health Administration rules and regulations, as well as several key areas of Hazardous Materials handling, Manny is fully certified in Mine Safety. Working across the United States for several years as an Explosives Engineer, Safety Director, and Miner, he brings keen knowledge of private sector business operations as they relate to public sector entities.

During his bid for Arizona State Mine Inspector in 2010, Manny highlighted the problem of nearly 10,000 documented Abandoned Mines across Arizona with approximately 3,300 of them deemed extremely dangerous. Manny followed up on his campaign promise to address these dangers by forming the Abandoned Mine Safety Organization (AMS), a 501-c-3 Non-Profit, in May of 2011. Serving as Executive Director of AMS, and in partnership with like minded and dedicated members of the Arizona Community in both the private and public sectors, AMS has closed two extremely dangerous mines (Globe, AZ) thus far. Additionally, AMS has educated thousands of school age children in Arizona about the dangers of Abandoned Mines.

With deep roots in Arizona, Manny is a graduate of Carl Hayden High School and attended Glendale Community College before moving on, and graduating from, the Austin Powder Blasting Academy as an Explosives Engineer. His Great-Grandfather was the first-ever public employee to retire from service with the city of Phoenix, Arizona. His Grandfather was a World War II hero receiving the Congressional Medal of Freedom along with two Purple Hearts. His Grandmother was born the same year Arizona became a state. Manny seeks to continue his family legacy of fine public service by becoming Mayor of Glendale.

With his wife Valerie (a small business owner), and their five children, the Cruz family resides in the Yucca District of Glendale.
