InfoAs a child, Maripat walked in the footsteps of a foster child, when her family became broken. Maripat lived for a short period with foster care parents in northern Illinois, while her brother by the eighth grade became a ward of the state until aging out at 18. Unbeknownst to her, growing up in a troubled home, Maripat found her mission …to serve and protect children in foster care.

Maripat founded the West Suburban Foster Parent Association, where serving as president, she raised awareness and offered support to foster/adoptive parents and children. She continued her advocacy on a statewide level with the Illinois Foster/Adoptive Parent Association (IFAPA), where she held the leadership posts of newsletter editor and legislative liaison. As liaison, Maripat authored foster care reform legislation and worked tirelessly to earn support from lawmakers in Springfield.

Maripat today serves on the Illinois Children and Family Services’ Review Board. By June 2008, Maripat’s advocacy was recognized with an appointment to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services’ Post Adoption Advisory Board, where she continues today her fight to reform the child welfare.

Maripat formerly worked as Director of Sales for Best Western in Naperville, Illinois. She also serves as ambassador and active member with the Naperville Chamber of Commerce.

Married to Paul in 1987, and mother to Hannah and Catherine, Maripat and her family legally adopted and welcomed into their home three special needs foster children, Zachary Jospeh, Natalie and David Paul. Maripat has home schooled her children, volunteered in her community and remains a licensed foster/adoptive parent for children in need.

The Oliver family are members of the St Francis Church in Bolingbrook and remain active in the Calvary Church of Naperville.

Maripat attended St. Mary’s Academy in Nauvoo, Illinois and graduated from Proviso High School in 1985. She continued her education with coursework at Triton College, Waubonsee Community College, College of DuPage and Joliet Junior College.

She is committed to a lifelong education in child welfare policies, foster parent training and building healthy, happy homes to welcome foster care children and their special needs.
