InfoSteve and Monique Hunt have lived in Fairfax County for nearly 15 years. He returned to the DC area upon his retirement as an active duty Naval Flight Officer. Steve grew up in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, having been born at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines where his father was serving as a junior enlisted airman.

Steve has been active in local community service organizations since moving to the county, as well as in local, state and national Republican politics. As a member of the Fairfax County School Board from 2004-2007 he represented over 1.3 million people, supported over 165,000 children and fought for accountability in a $2.2 billion budget.

As well as serving on the School Board, Steve's community work has included serving as chairman of the School Health Advisory Committee for three years, as vice commander of the Centreville American Legion Post 1995 and as Legion sponsor of Boy Scout Troop 1995 and Cub Scout Pack 321, as well as serving as a member of the advisory committees for the Medical Care for Children Partnership and the Care Connection for Children, and on the board of the Joshua Foundation. He's also a member of the Fairfax VFW, Clifton Lions Club and Bailey's Crossroads Rotary Club, a Habitat for Humanity volunteer and an Honor Flight volunteer.

Voluntary work has been important throughout his life. In foreign ports, Steve got involved in Navy community relations projects, such as painting schools and orphanages. While stationed with the US Navy at Virginia Beach, he was active in the local Jaycees - through which he met his lovely wife, Monique.

The Hunts are members of Chantilly Bible Church and active volunteers in the annual "March for Life" and have marched in support of America's veterans. Steve has also served as President of the Assist Pregnancy Center and an instructor in a Virginia Health Department-approved teen abstinence program, Keep It Simple Say No (KISSN). While living in Virginia Beach, he also helped start St. Michael's Lutheran Church. In his last Naval tour, Steve was the volunteer youth leader at the Point Mugu Naval Weapons Station Chapel along with being the church council president.

Steve and Monique feel strongly about animal rescue and have four dogs, two cats and a parrot - all rescues.

Steve understands first-hand the importance of Northern Virginia's technology sector as an engine for economic growth in the region, as he works in the sector as a senior systems analyst at defense contractor SAIC. His work there involves programmatic analysis, computer modeling, software development and numerous other advanced technology applications.

He received his civil engineering degree from Duke University, where he was a member of the Civil Engineering honor society and the Navy Pistol Team. He attended Duke on a full Navy ROTC scholarship, having graduated in 1976 from Frederick Douglass High School in Upper Marlboro. At Douglass, he was senior class vice president and middle linebacker on the county's AA champion football team.

Upon graduating from Duke, Steve was commissioned an officer in the US Navy. After earning his Naval Flight Officer wings in Pensacola, Florida and F-4 Phantom training in Virginia Beach, he headed off to Fighter Squadron VF-151. He was permanently forward deployed for over two years operating throughout the Far East and the Indian Ocean, returning mid-tour to attend TOPGUN.

Back in Virginia, after serving as an admiral's aide for one year, he transitioned to and became an instructor in the F-14 Tomcat. During his Naval service he had over 470 carrier landings, over 2000 hours in tactical aircraft and worked as an F-4 & F-14 Radar Intercept Operator (Goose in "TOPGUN").

As the air-defense officer on the USS Enterprise, he earned Navy Achievement and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals for his actions during Operation Preying Mantis. Later as a tactical action officer, he was responsible for directing defensive operations of the carrier battle group. In foreign ports, Steve would participate in the community relations projects, such as painting schools and orphanages.

He joined fighter squadron VF-31 shortly before Iraq invaded Kuwait. During the Mediterranean deployment, he flew 5 "combat" missions over post war Iraq as part of Operation Provide Comfort and served as the battle group liaison with the French Navy during a major NATO exercise.
