InfoDUNHAM, Cyrus Livingston, a Representative from Indiana; born in Dryden, Tompkins County, N.Y., January 16, 1817; attended the common schools; taught school; studied law and was admitted to the bar; moved to Salem, Washington County, Ind., in 1841 and commenced practice; elected prosecuting attorney of Washington County in 1845; member of the State house of representatives in 1846 and 1847; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-first, Thirty-second, and Thirty-third Congresses (March 4, 1849-March 3, 1855); chairman, Committee on Roads and Canals (Thirty-third Congress); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1854 to the Thirty-fourth Congress; appointed by Governor Willard secretary of state and served in 1859 and 1860; served in the Union Army as colonel of the Fiftieth Regiment, Indiana Volunteer Infantry, 1861-1863; resumed the practice of law in New Albany, Floyd County, Ind.; elected a member of the State house of representatives in 1864 and 1865; moved to Jeffersonville, Ind., in 1871; judge of Clark County Criminal Court 1871-1874; resumed the practice of law; died in Jeffersonville, Clark County, Ind., November 21, 1877; interment in Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
