Info | Ann Williams is an Independent Democratic candidate who is running to change the existing political culture of corruption and insider deals that has taken state government out of the hands of everyday people.
Ann believes we need a strong independent voice in Springfield to represent us — someone who is accountable only to the people and communities of the 11th District, and not beholden to the political powers that be. Ann has the integrity, experience, and qualifications we need to change the way business is done in Springfield.
As Assistant Attorney General with Lisa Madigan’s office for over 4 years, Ann was responsible for helping to craft and implement key parts of the Attorney General’s public interest agenda — she worked to protect women and children from sex offenders, combat mortgage fraud, fight identity theft, and create openness and accountability in our government.
Prior to serving as an Assistant Attorney General, Ann was a legislative staff attorney working with legislators from all over the state, helping to advance legislation to meet the needs of working families, including increasing access to affordable healthcare, improving educational opportunities, enhancing public safety, caring for senior citizens, and protecting our environment.
After her years of public service as Assistant Attorney General, Ann continued her advocacy in the private sector, serving as a liaison between state government and business for a pharmaceutical company to provide access to affordable prescription medications to the public.
Ann has always been committed to serving the community. While completing her studies in law school, Ann clerked at the Legal Assistance Foundation, Women’s Law Project. Ann was among the first recipients of the Public Interest Scholarship at Drake University Law School. After graduating from law school, Ann served as a volunteer attorney at Pro Bono Advocates, helping victims of domestic violence obtain orders of protection.
Ann currently serves on the boards of the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence and on Personal PAC, an advocacy organization committed to protecting a woman’s right to choose. Ann makes her home in the North Center area of Chicago.
