| Info | Rep. Kamei is serving his ninth term in the Lower House. He worked as a policeman prior to being elected. Kamei graduated from Tokyo University in 1960 with a degree in Economics. Kamei has long been a chief in-party rival of Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, who has defeated him for LDP President in the past. Rep. Kamei is one of the most outspoken opponents of the death penalty in the Diet, which is unusual for an LDP member. He also has called for an increase in government spending and programs in an effort to boost Japan's economy.
