| Info | The oldest of three children, Ashvin Lad was born and raised in Springfield, IL. His parents were Indian immigrants who settled in Illinois and have been employees of the State of Illinois for decades. Raised in the state’s capital, Abraham Lincoln's hometown, Ashvin developed a strong passion and appreciation for public service, and what it takes to establish and maintain a government.
After graduation from Springfield High School, Ashvin pursued his bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, a top ranked engineering school. As President of the Student Body, he led the integration of co-education of the once all male engineering institution. Upon graduation he remained at Rose-Hulman where he earned his MS degree in Biomedical Engineering and led the design and development of a new cardio related medical device. After earning his Masters, he remained in the health care industry as a product development engineer designing and developing new life-saving medical devices.
After leading the launch of seven new or enhanced products in just over 3 years, he left the industry to attend Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business where he earned his MBA in Marketing and Strategic Management. His leadership as the President of the MBA student body earned him the distinguished Kelley Legacy Award upon graduation.
Most recently, Ashvin was a member of the financial services industry where he worked in the Prepaid Card Division. Ashvin’s role was to develop new programs to provide financial services to the 80 million financially underserved individuals in the country to bring them into the financial mainstream with responsible and cost-saving products, while assisting businesses to reduce costs associated with processing and distributing paper checks. He was also charged with increasing distribution channels by negotiating new agreements with issuing banks and marketing agents.
Another title Ashvin proudly holds is that of a cancer survivor, having beaten the disease almost 10 years ago. He overcame a serious illness with months of treatments and surgeries, all the while keeping a very positive attitude. It was during this time that he not only enhanced his appreciation of health care research, but also the ability to navigate the complicated healthcare and insurance systems.
Ashvin is a long time resident of Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood. He has served his community as a youth baseball coach and as head of his business school’s local alumni association chapter. He is also a cancer survivor mentor for Immerman Angels, and is a member of The Chicago Council on Global Affairs and the Chicago Young Republicans. In his free time he enjoys international (have visited 30 countries and all major continents) and domestic travel, bike riding along the lake shore, golf, movies, and catching ball games at Wrigley Field.
