InfoBleich began at Munger, Tolles and Olson in 1992 and was made partner three years later.

Bleich has been president of the California State Bar and San Francisco Bar Association. He is chairman of the board of trustees at California State University and has an academic teaching role as adjunct professor at the Boalt Hall School of Law at University of California, Berkeley.

Bleich was President of the California State Bar (2007-2008)

Bleich was influential in seeking funds for Obama's presidential election. His nomination as the US Ambassador to Australia bared his bond with the US Democratic Party, bound tighter during Obama's presidential campaign. For 12 months he played a lead role in Bill Clinton's commission on youth violence, as director of the commission. He raised and donated funds to Hilary Clinton as well as to Obama, Obama received the greater share. Bleich joined the White House team in March 2009. Among his first roles was to moderate a discussion on human rights in the new administration at the 2009 American Bar Association's Section of International Law Spring Meeting, held 14-18 April 2009 in Washington, D.C.
