InfoRavi Sangisetty is driven to solve the problems that most affect the future of South Louisiana. He is committed to fighting for our coast, spurring the growth of our coastal industries, and improving education and health care in our region. As a Louisiana native, Ravi holds these issues close to heart.

Ravi grew up along the Intracoastal Waterway in Terrebonne Parish, where he attended Vandebilt Catholic High School. There, his academic and athletic dedication earned him admission to Princeton University. While pursuing his degree in political science, Ravi developed a strong devotion to public policy, especially in the area of coastal restoration. He considers his senior thesis, which proposed legal reforms to save the Barataria-Terrebonne Estuarine Complex, the highlight of his academic career.

Upon graduation, Ravi returned to Louisiana and earned his law degree from Louisiana State University. His legal training centered on diverse areas of public law, including, for example, health care law. As part of his studies, he proposed cost-effective methods of providing medical treatment to underserved communities. Also while at LSU Law, he was selected by his peers to chair its Ethics Committee.

Ravi then began his legal career as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Stanwood R. Duval, Jr., of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. There, Ravi gained immense exposure to federal law, its interpretation, and its impact on Louisianians’ lives. His work centered on post-Katrina litigation involving the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), homeowners insurance policies, and the National Flood Insurance Program. Additionally, he spent significant time navigating complex federal regulations and handling all matters of federal criminal law that came before the Court.

After his clerkship, Ravi joined the law firm of McGlinchey Stafford in New Orleans. In his private practice, he handled litigation in many areas of federal law, including those highly relevant to our recent financial crisis, like banking regulation and bankruptcy.

In December 2008, Ravi married his wife Sarah, now a graduate of Tulane Law School. The couple lives in Houma, where Ravi’s parents, both immigrants from India, still reside and maintain thriving medical practices. Ravi draws inspiration from their successes and finds that their values of hard work, self-determination, family, and community are the same on which our great region was built.

Ravi now works in Houma as a business attorney at the law firm of Duval, Funderburk, Sundbery, Lovell and Watkins. He stays involved with his alma mater, Vandebilt Catholic High School, and attends mass at St. Bernadette Catholic Church.
