InfoStan Penfold has been an active, progressive voice in Salt Lake City’s District 3 for many years. Dedicated to public service, Stan has served as chairpersons of the Greater Avenues Community Council and the Salt Lake Association of Community Councils. It is thanks to his efforts that Salt Lake area community councils have official City recognition. Stan has served as Executive Director of the Utah AIDS Foundation since 1999. He is progressive pragmatic and fair, honoring the nonpartisan structure and tradition of City government.

Stan Penfold is - first and foremost - a neighbor, with a deep understanding of neighborhood issues. He has renovated one house in the lower Avenues and is currently working on another. As a City Councilman, he will work to protect the people and neighborhood integrity of District 3. Stan advocates updating all District 3 neighborhood plans over the next four years to ensure that building renovations are truly compatible with existing neighborhoods. Stan believes we need to slow down traffic and provide more transportation options. He supports the Clean the Air Challenge and Mayor Becker’s efforts to add bike lanes and improve public transit options throughout the City.

Environmental Activism is of utmost importance for Stan. He believes Salt Lake City should be the regional leader in smart growth, sustainable development, responsible energy policy, recycling efforts, protecting open spaces, and green building practices. To protect our communities, Stan supports Mayor Becker’s efforts to build a new police headquarters and emergency operations center. He believes, while an economically vibrant downtown, airport, and University of Utah are vital to District 3’s health, development pressures must be balanced with neighborhood interests.

Stan is a true progressive. He believes that we must oppose efforts to intimidate and legislate against minority groups, including the SB81 immigration bill. Stan knows that diversity makes our community stronger. He also believes in age-appropriate sex education in public schools.

As Stan is a respected community advocate for the Avenues and Capitol Hill, he will be an ideal Councilman to protect and preserve our neighborhoods, equipping them to meet today’s challenges while paying attention to future needs. We appreciate your support of Stan Penfold for City Council District 3.
