Tim Gobble is a native of Cleveland and Bradley County, Tennessee. He comes from a working middle class background. His mother is a retired school teacher and his father is retired from Maytag. His grandparents were local farmers and small business owners. He is married to Christie and together they have three wonderful children, Chris, a student at David Lipscomb University, Courtney, a student at Walker Valley High School and Caitlyn, a student at Ocoee Middle School.
Gobble has twenty years of experience in the field of law enforcement and public safety. Gobble’s service began as a patrolman with the Cleveland, Tennessee, Police Department.
He served this nation for 15 years as a special agent with the United States Secret Service where he protected the President and Vice President of the United States, candidates for the Office of President and Vice President and foreign leaders who visited the United States. During his career, he investigated threats against the President and Vice President and conducted other high-level and complex criminal investigations to protect the integrity of the nation’s financial system. While serving as a Secret Service agent, Gobble was assigned to field offices in Nashville, Tennessee, Houston, Texas, Washington, D.C./Northern Virginia and Chattanooga, Tennessee. During his years in the Secret Service, he traveled extensively throughout the United States and around the world. As a Secret Service agent, Gobble held a “Top-Secret National Security Clearance”.
Following his career in the Secret Service, Gobble was appointed as director of the Cleveland/Bradley County Emergency Management Agency, where he was responsible for organizing and directing the overall emergency response and operations plans for Bradley County in the event of a variety of natural and man-made disasters.
In 2002, Gobble was elected as an at-large member of the Cleveland, Tennessee, City Council where he developed a record of supporting top-quality public education, community and economic development, enhanced public safety, efficient city services and holding the line against tax-increases and needless government bureaucratic interference. Gobble was also a promoter of the right of people to have a free and unrestricted voice in the affairs of government.
In 2006, Gobble was elected sheriff of Bradley County, Tennessee, by a wide-margin. As sheriff he has developed a reputation for being tough on crime and managing resources effectively. Every year since becoming sheriff, Gobble has saved budgeted money and returned it to the taxpayers. He is a graduate of the prestigious FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar, Quantico,VA, and numerous other law enforcement related education and development programs. He has been the recipient of numerous performance and achievement awards.
National experts in the field of law enforcement have said the Bradley County Sheriff's Office under the leadership of Sheriff Gobble is one of the most efficient and effective in the nation. The Bradley County Sheriff's Office currently has a crime clearance rate that is approximately 17% above the national average. Gobble’s reputation is one of fighting for citizens’ safety and supporting working men and women.
Gobble graduated from Cleveland High School in 1982 and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in government and public administration from David Lipscomb College in Nashville (1986). While in college, Gobble was a member of the College Republicans, served an internship in Governor Lamar Alexander's Office and was active in campus life, serving as student body president.
Gobble is actively involved in his community and family life is of primary importance to him. He has served as president of the North Lee Elementary School PTO, coached youth baseball and soccer, is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Cleveland, the Sons of the American Revolution and serves as an elder in his church. Gobble is an Executive Board member of the Tennessee Crime Prevention Coalition, serves as a member of the Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association and its Legislative Committee, is a member of the Tennessee District 3 Homeland Security Council and is a member of the National Sheriffs’ Association and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
