Dear Fellow Oregonian,
At the very top of my goals as your U.S. Senator will be the total revision of federal campaign finance laws. Right now, elections are paid for by the highest bidders, and waste, tax breaks, and distrust of government are the results.
I pledge to do all in my power to get the big money out of politics and restore honest representation of the people in our government.
Here is the vision of Oregon and our nation that I want to take to the U.S. Senate:
*Maintaining our Oregon quality of life is fundamental to our personal well-being and to our future prosperity. That means that we should end clear-cutting and old-growth logging on federal lands, restore the salmon runs, and maintain our pristine air and water quality. I believe in true sustained-yield forestry. For timber-dependent communities, we need enterprise zones and other incentives for entrepreneurs to start new businesses.
*To strengthen our economy, we also need guaranteed health-care for every citizen and a top-quality education for the next generation.
*We can balance the budget by cutting back on military expenditures, ending corporate welfare, and making taxes more progressive. Nationally, our best scientists and engineers should be developing the high-tech products of the future, not more expensive military hardware. Job security also depends on not shipping our manufacturing jobs overseas.
*Every Oregonian is entitled to equal protection under the law, and women and minorities are entitled to equal opportunities. Reproductive rights should be guaranteed.
