Info | A fourth generation Oregonian and a lifelong resident of the state, Ron Saxton has been a leader in Oregon's civic, business and political community for more than three decades.
Born and raised in Albany, Oregon, Ron graduated from West Albany High School and was the first in his family to complete college, graduating from Willamette University and the University of Virginia Law School.
A passionate education advocate, Ron was elected to the Portland Public Schools Board in 1997 and served as its Chair from 1998-2000. As Chair, Ron not only introduced more competition and school choice for students and parents, but he also led the effort to privatize many school district operations so more money could be spent in the classroom.
Additionally, Ron co-founded an independent, community-based organization that has raised more than $30 million in private contributions to improve student achievement and school performance in Oregon's largest school district, and he served as a Board Member of the Saturday Academy, a science and math mentoring program for youth.
A co-founder of the AterWynne law firm, Ron specializes in complex business transactions involving the energy, manufacturing and natural resource industries. He is especially experienced in creating successful public-private partnerships.
Ron has also owned a commercial cherry farm, been active in the Pacific Council of the Boy Scouts, and served as a political commentator on KATU television in Portland.
Ron is married to Lynne Saxton, also a fourth generation Oregonian, and together the Saxtons recently celebrated their 27 th anniversary. Lynne is the Executive Director of The Christie School, a charitable organization serving children and families throughout Oregon. The Saxtons have one son, Andy, an engineer for an Oregon-based defense contractor.
Ron and Lynne have served as Deacons of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Portland where they have been members since 1989. Together, the Saxtons enjoy tennis, traveling, cooking and bike riding, as well as Ron's love for gardening, fly-fishing, baseball and jazz.
A lifelong Republican and common-sense conservative, Ron Saxton is the Republican candidate for Governor who is running to change the way Oregon's government operates.
