Info | Jamie Baker is partner in charge of the Washington office of Baker Botts, where his practice concentrates on international commercial and trade-related matters and transactions. His transactional practice relates principally to the energy and natural resources, telecommunications, and technology sectors of the economy, and involves contract negotiation and documentation of investment vehicles, business combinations, divestitures and operations, and various forms of corporate and project finance.
Mr. Baker’s clients include both foreign and domestic publicly traded and closely held companies and venture and private equity investment funds and partnerships, and he regularly advises clients in both inbound and outbound international investments.
Mr. Baker’s recent representations have included transactions in the Arabian Peninsula and North Africa, Central and East Asia, Europe, and Russia, many of which have involved negotiations between private concerns and government agencies or state enterprises.
In addition to his transactional portfolio, Mr. Baker maintains an active practice in advising U.S. and non-U.S. companies with respect to their compliance obligations under U.S. trade and transactional regulations, including U.S. sanctions programs, Patriot Act compliance, and export controls.
From 1982 to 1985, prior to joining Baker Botts, Mr. Baker served as counsel to the U.S. Senate Majority Leader. He is currently co-chairman of the U.S.-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce, and he serves on the advisory board of Milestone Merchant Partners, a Washington-based investment firm.
Mr. Baker graduated from Cornell University (B.S. - Economics) in 1977 and from the University of Texas School of Law in 1981, where he was on the Editorial Board of The Texas International Law Journal. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the District of Columbia Bar Association, and the American Bar Association, in the latter of which he participates as a member of the Section of International Law and Practice and the Section on Taxation.
