Info | Will Morefield was raised in the coalfields of Southwest Virginia and learned as a young man the importance of God, family, and hard work. His grandparents, Jack and Betty Morefield raised Will from the age of seven. Jack was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America with nearly forty years of underground experience in the coalmines and Betty was a loving mother of five who was active in the community and Baptist Church. Will graduated from Tazewell High School in 2002 and the following year attended King College.
In the Fall of 2003, Will transferred to Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. Will's mother, Rebekah Peery serves as a Captain in the United States Air Force and was stationed at the time not far from the university before serving in Iraq. During his first year Will became involved in many organizations and clubs throughout the community and university. In 2005, Will was elected President of the student body and the first student to be reelected the following year. In 2006, the Governor of Texas appointed Will to the University's Board of Regents as the first student to serve on the university's board. Will graduated from MSU in May of 2007 with Bachelor of Arts and Science Degree. During his collegiate experience Will learned the importance of civic responsibility and volunteerism.
Six months before Will's graduation from MSU his grandfather passed away from pneumoconiosis (Black Lung Disease). Will witnessed first hand the suffering his grandfather experienced and vowed to fight for victims of the disease. Will returned to Southwest Virginia and settled in his home town of Tazewell after graduating from college. Will currently serves on a number of community boards including The Tazewell Area Chamber of Commerce and Tazewell High School Alumni Association.
Will is devoted toward improving the quality of life for the citizens of Southwest Virginia. As a small business owner he will fight for job growth and economic diversity. Will strongly opposes drugs and will win the war on prescription medication abuse and illegal narcotics that has devastated the families and communities of Southwest Virginia. He considers coal the lifeblood of the 3rd District and will fight anti-coal policy in Richmond.
