InfoUntil recently, Clément Gignac was Senior Advisor to the Deputy Minister, Department of Finance Canada after serving 20 years with the National Bank Financial. Clément Gignac is widely renowned for his knowledge in financial issues and he has been constantly ranked over the last decade amongst the top strategists and economists in the country before becoming a public servant.

With the important challenges that faced the financial system both in Canada and internationally, the Department of Finance Canada appointed Mr. Gignac as Canada’s representative on one G-20 working group after the leader’s summit in Washington.

Previous to his appointment as Senior Advisor to the Deputy Minister, Clément Gignac was Senior Vice-President, Chief Economist and Strategist of National Bank Financial.

Mr. Gignac graduated from Université Laval with a master’s degree in economics in 1980. That same year, he began his Economist career, joining the Confédération des Caisses Desjardins. In 1984, he accepted a new challenge moving to the Quebec Department of Finance in Quebec City where he held various positions in economic forecasting and the area of federal transfers.

In 2002, while retaining his duties, Mr. Gignac assumed additional responsibilities with his appointment as Chief Economist at National Bank. He has served as economic spokesperson for the entire National Bank Financial Group whose opinion was at that time regularly sought by the media. Furthermore, Mr. Gignac was over that period frequently consulted by Canadian business leaders and the Canadian and provincial governments as part of their budget planning activities.

Moreover, Mr. Gignac was also active in his professional association since he was elected in 2008 President of the Association des économistes québécois (ASDEQ), his term ended recently.
