| Info | Dr. Weinstein is a family practice physician with the Kaleida Health System of Erie County. He has operated his family practice on Maple Road in Amherst for over 30 years. Additionally, he holds a Juris Doctor from SUNY Buffalo.
A devoted father of four daughters and seven grandchildren, Barry is married to the former Lois Miller. Barry's grown daughters are all professionals, including a pediatrician, an attorney and two teachers.
Public service is a lifestyle to Barry who spent many years coaching girl's softball. He also served 14 years on the Williamsville School Board where he was president from 1988-1990. Additionally, he worked on various PTA's and the PTA Council. An avid golfer, Barry was Westwood Country Club Champion in 1985 & 1987.
Barry chose to get involved in government because he believed that one person can make a difference. "I feel strongly that it is important to get involved in your community. Being able to participate in government has been both an honor and a challenge. I have great vision for Erie County and understand that our best resource is our young people. I endeavor to look for opportunities to pave the way for future generations"
As a physician in the Erie County Legislature for ten years, Barry focused on health related issues in addition to economic development. As a legislator he put into place a law requiring parental consent for body piercing for those under 18. He helped ECMC become a public benefit corporation, worked on food safety training legislation, and sponsored legislation to reduce Erie County's Medicaid burden.
Barry served as a member of the Erie County Board of Health, the Health and Social Services Committee for the Legislature, co-chair of the Erie Niagara Regional Partnership and a trustee of the Eighth Judicial District Law Library.
Barry brings to the community many experiences from his different roles in life. Older, experienced people frequently have insights and wisdom that their younger counterparts do not. It is by virtue of these varied skills that set Dr. Barry apart from others enabling him to be successful in a variety of positions.
