InfoHello, I am Thomas Castillo, Democratic Candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Illinois in 2010. I am happily married to my wife Elizabeth, a nurse for an OB/GYN in Cook County. We currently reside in Elmhurst, Illinois with our dog and best friend Carma.

I was born November 6, 1976 to Juan and Charlene Castillo. My father was born in Laredo, Texas and his mother was born in Saltillo Coahuila, Mexico. My wife Elizabeth's parents migrated to Illinois from Cuernavaca, Mexico in 1976.

I have two older brothers (John and Mark) and two younger sisters (Natalie and Jennifer). My family has been in Chicago since my Great Grandparents migrated here from Italy in 1918

I attended Kinzie and St. Jane Elementary Schools, graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Chicago's Garfield Ridge neighborhood and went on to attend Michigan State University where I studied psychology, early childhood education, and architecture.

I am proud to say that I am a card carrying member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local #134, as are both my brothers and my nephew. Like many of you, I work at least 40 hours per week with my hands.

I understand the battles that many working class families face on a daily basis. Many struggle to keep their homes, pay bills and keep food on the table, all this as they try to make a better life for their loved ones. I understand their pain, I understand their frustration, and I understand the need for change and a better way.

To say that I have always been interested in politics would be an over statement. But to allow this pain of non-representation of the Peoples wishes and the continuing corruption of our elected leaders to go on would be unforgivable.

As you will learn in the coming months, I am one of you. A man who loves his wife, cares about his Mother, Father, Brothers and Sisters, Nieces, Nephews, and neighbors. I can no longer stomach the ineffectiveness and lack of oversight from our so called leaders, who are sworn to represent and protect the People of our great state.

So this is my promise to you: I am and always will be a Patriot first, I will represent all of Illinois, fight to tilt the balance of power back in favor of the People and help draft and pass legislation to keep it that way. So that the power of the People stays with the People of Illinois and not with the selected few.
