Info
I’m a Detroitaholic!!! I can’t help it. I was born and raised here and I’m not MOVING. I love to travel, but I ALWAYS love coming back home.

I am MANY things, including a brother, uncle, son, nephew, cousin, friend, mentor, neighbor, and so much more. I take great pride in each role. I am the son of George and Marcia Pugh. My mother grew up in St. Clair Shores and met my father during one of her summer visits to her cousin’s house, who lived on Richton Street, near Dexter Avenue on Detroit’s west side. Both my parents died when I was still a child. My mother was murdered when I was 3 years old (in 1974 when the city of Detroit experienced its greatest number of homicides in the city’s history). My father, who remarried 3 years later, lost his job at Ford Motor Company and ended up committing suicide in 1978. I was 7 years old and we were the only two in the house. It was the worst thing ever. However, over the years the pain has become more manageable. My grandmother raised me. My step-mother has played a huge role in my life. My brother and his lovely wife are both Detroit Police Officers. I’m so proud of them and my 2 nieces and nephew. They are GREAT kids who love their uncle. My beautiful sister is a joy.

I graduated from the MIGHTY MURRAY-WRIGHT HIGH SCHOOL ~ Class of 1989. I was blessed enough to win a scholarship to attend the prestigious University of Missouri’s ~ School of Journalism. I have worked as a television journalist at KOMU-TV in Columbia, Missouri, WIBW-TV in Topeka, Kansas, WKJG-TV in Fort Wayne, Indiana and WAVY-TV in Norfolk, Virginia. I did ALL THAT with 1 goal in mind: getting back home to do the news in Detroit.

For ten years, I worked as a reporter and anchor on FOX 2. It was such an honor to serve you in that capacity. I anchored the Saturday and Sunday morning 3-hour news show with Deena Centofanti for 7 years. She was a wonderful partner. However, it was my direct connection to people on the streets of Detroit that gave me my real purpose. I have been on nearly every corner in the city of Detroit, and it has given me an opportunity to hear your stories and know your concerns. I have also been listening to you for the past 5 years on FM-98 WJLB. I did the news, weather, traffic, sports and my favorite part, my commentary called Pugh’s Perspective every morning with Coco, Foolish & Mr. Chase. It was also a blessing to have the weekly Sunday evening talk show “That’s What’s Up” on WJLB. That is where I was really able to hear your concerns and hopes for Detroit.

Besides my jobs, mentoring and speaking at our schools has been an important role for me in this community. I have been blessed to have encouraged young Detroiters in literally every neighborhood in this city for the last decade. I have taken my role to inspire, encourage, uplift and inform our youth VERY SERIOUSLY, and I’m looking forward to the next chapter. I have started a production company called Charles Pugh Productions. I have always wanted to work for myself and build an empire..this is the first step. What a life I have!!!

THANK YOU DETROIT for being in my corner through every triumph and every tragedy. I AM Detroit, and I will never embarrass you or let you down.
