| Info | I am a fifth generation resident of the Fox Valley. The Hasterts emigrated to America in the 1860s and settled in the Fox Valley, initially working for the Burlington Railway in Aurora. My mother, Jean, taught for thirty-four years in the Yorkville schools and my father, Dennis, taught and coached in Yorkville for sixteen years. He served six years in the Illinois General Assembly prior to representing the residents of the 14th Congressional District for 21 years.
I am proud to be from and live in such a diverse and economically-vital region, and I would consider it an honor to represent this District in the United States House of Representatives. As an advocate for the hard-working people of the District, I will provide common-sense, results-oriented and reform-minded leadership that respects the fact that every dollar the federal government spends comes from your pocket in the form of a tax.
Unfortunately, in recent years the federal government has run huge budget deficits by spending far more money than it collects. In recent months, the Democrats quadrupled the already large budget deficit and expect to double the national debt. This type of reckless fiscal policy, leading to inflation and tax increases, is cynical as it trades short-term political gain for an economic burden to be borne by future generations. While the Democrats promised change, they have squandered the opportunity to deliver reform.
As your Representative, I will help return the nation to our core principles by supporting low taxes, limited government and the elimination of wasteful spending.
As an attorney in private practice in Chicago, I specialize in complex, commercial litigation in state and federal courts. Prior to practicing law, I served in the White House as Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff and National Security Advisor in the Office of the Vice President of the United States.
Born and raised in Yorkville, I was educated at Yorkville High School, earned my B.S. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and my J.D. from the Northwestern University School of Law.
I live in Elburn with my wife, Heidi and son, Jack.
