Gordon Myse was appointed to District III in 1986 after twenty-two years in the law profession, divided equally between private practice and the circuit court bench.
He was born in Kaukauna in 1935 and earned a B.A. degree from Beloit College in 1957 and an LL.B. from the University of Michigan Law School in 1960. He spent three years in the U.S. Naval Reserve at Camp Pendleton in California before returning to Appleton where he practiced with the firm of Herrling, Lathrop & Myse and served as family court commissioner for Outagamie County. In 1972 he was named a circuit court judge for Outagamie County. During his tenure he headed a special state committee on judicial ethics and served on a number of other panels, including the state Judicial Commission, Judicial Council, and a committee to study compensation. In 1983 he returned to private practice, and in 1986 Governor Anthony Earl appointed him to fill a vacancy in District III. He retired from the Court of Appeals in 1999.
Professional affiliations include Wisconsin Voluntary Judges Association, Wisconsin Trial Lawyers Academy, and Wisconsin Council on Children and Families, as well as local and national bar associations. Judicial activities include the Wisconsin Judicial Council, National Advisory Committee on Abused and Missing Children, and the faculty of the National Judicial College.
He is married, has three children, and enjoys travel and golf. As a reserve judge, in 2001 he was named "Trial Judge of the Year" by the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates.
