Experience
Educational:
I believe education is the bedrock upon which we build our free society. Unlike most politicians, I have real experience in education - both as a schoolteacher in Tennessee's public schools and as a Commissioner on the Southern Association of Schools & Colleges. As Chairman of the Motlow State Community College Foundation, I was proud to make higher education more accessible to rural students and enhance the quality of their education. I believe we must support our public schools. We must develop a national attitude in which parents, businesses, politicians, and retirees recognize the necessity of promoting public education at all levels.
Business Leadership
During the 27 years I led Micro Craft, Inc., the company grew from 25 employees to over 600 and transformed from a regional machine shop into an international industry leader in aerospace research, development, testing, engineering and manufacturing. I know the importance of controlling costs, making payroll, and growing jobs. I know the importance of listening and building a consensus among people when making important decisions. I have held a top-secret level security clearance while our company worked on some of America's most important national defense systems.
Economic Growth
Serving on the Federal Reserve Board has allowed me to study the unique economic needs and current condition of our region. Often a good decision made for the country as a whole is not best for rural Tennessee. I understand the special needs of small business owners and small family-owned farms and will make a positive difference for them in Congress.
Inspiration
God has bestowed many blessings upon me. My husband and children are a constant source of inspiration; they give me unconditional love and support. Along life's road, I have met many wonderful people who have given their time and energy to enrich my life; as a result, I have adopted the personal philosophy, "make time to care."
