Hometown: Langhorne
DOB: 7/31/60
Mr. Zellis is a graduate of the Emory University School of Law and has been with the office since 1985. Mr. Zellis is one of the District Attorney’s Office lead prosecutors as well as the head of the Bucks County Investigative Grand Jury. Mr. Zellis also serves as the Chief of Crimes Against Older Adults and is on the Bucks County Crimes Against Older Adults Task Force.
Zellis’ 20 successful homicide cases include six first-degree murder convictions. After the famous conviction of Heidi Tenzer, a nurse in a nursing facility who was found responsible of neglect and death of an 83-year-old patient in 2000, Zellis dedicated much of his time and effort to protecting elderly adults in Pennsylvania. He established the Bucks County Crimes Against Older Adults Task Force, which is a multidisciplinary team that investigates crimes while also protecting the senior population from being victimized.
A 24-year-veteran of the DA’s office, Zellis has headed the county grand jury for 20 years and earned 20 homicide convictions, including the recent, high profile case of Mary Jo Fonder, who’s serving a life sentence for killing a fellow parishioner at an Upper Bucks church. Zellis said he’ll emulate outgoing Judge David Heckler, who stepped down last week to run for DA.
