| Info | Otto J. Wolff was sworn in on August 7, 2001 as the Chief Financial Officer and Assistant Secretary for Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce. As the CFO/ASA, he oversees the Commerce Department's $5.6 billion budget and its facilities worldwide. He exercises Department-wide responsibility for a broad range of administrative functions, including strategic planning, financial management, budgeting, procurement, financial assistance, security, human resources, civil rights, small business utilization, and personal and real property management. These duties include implementation of management reforms throughout Commerce.
Mr. Wolff's career in public service includes extensive experience in both the Executive and Legislative branches of government. When the Republicans took control of the House of Representatives in the wake of the elections in 1994, Mr. Wolff joined the staff of the Committee on House Administration where he was responsible for overseeing the implementation of wide-ranging reforms, working closely with the Appropriations Committees, the General Accounting Office and House leadership offices.
During the Reagan and George H.W. Bush administrations, Mr. Wolff served first as Assistant to Secretary Malcolm Baldrige and then as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Administration.
Prior to his civilian career, Mr. Wolff was an active duty U.S. Air Force officer having served in Vietnam and Europe in addition to his stateside assignments. He is a graduate of Penn State with a bachelor of science degree in finance.
